Statement:
Emily Renee Stockwell can be defined as artist, designer, textile mad scientist, and otaku girl. She creates work in search of combining playfulness, architecture, tactility, and storytelling. Materiality plays an important part in her works as she seeks to soften the hard and often painful materials that occur in her architectural work including concrete, drywall, and plastics. Through the merging of these materials with textiles the visual weight and tactile hardness are elevated. A heavy concrete block becomes more curiously toy-like with the addition of colorful yarn or thin felted wool resulting in the history of both construction and domestic craft meeting in her works.
